Episcopal Mission Exchange March 12, 2008

Friends in Christ,
Episcopal Mission Exchange is a program designed to connect parish, diocesan, and Episcopal school student groups with trusted short-term mission opportunities. Episcopal Mission Exchange (EMX) was developed in response to the General Convention Priority on Youth and we would like to be a resource to you and to your diocese.
EMX is a great program that has already proven successful. It has been our experience that most Youth Ministers do not have the time or energy required to plan and program a mission experience. So why not let us do it for you? EMX is provided to you free of charge and groups are only responsible for the cost of food, lodging, and transportation that vary from location to location.
If your parish or diocese would like to use EMX we will work hard to pair your group’s gifts with the needs of EMX locations. We will also send you a workbook that is jam-packed with useful information to help make your experience a success. Here is a sample of some of the materials you will find in the EMX workbook:
· How to recruit effective adult chaperones
· A covenant for all participants
· How to train your students
· A 6-month timeline to help you prepare
· Cultural Sensitivity information
· Fundraising Ideas
· Bible Studies to be used as you prepare your team
· Information on obtaining proper insurance coverage
Please let us know if EMX can be a help to you or your diocese when planning mission experiences. We would be happy to send you more information about EMX opportunities or help with discerning which location is best for your group. Give us a call toll-free at 1-877-EMXSEND or email us at info@episcopalmissionexchange.org. You may also find our website www.episcopalmissionexchange.org to be helpful.
God’s Peace,
Marnie Fisher-Ingram Bentley Manning
Director, Episcopal Mission Exchange Assistant Director, Episcopal Mission Exchange

Youth Week at Kanuga! March 12, 2008

Summer’s coming, which means it’s almost time for Youth Week at Kanuga! This June 22-27 event is drawing teens and adults from across the country — and we don’t want the Diocese of Upper South Carolina to miss out! Youth Week is a wonderful time of learning, fellowship and refreshment. The Adults Who Work With Youth conference is a great opportunity for youth leaders to examine their ministry, be inspired by stories and ideas, hone their skills through workshops and hands-on activities, develop friendships with others who share your passions, rest and reflect in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains. Meanwhile, parish youth groups can attend conferences for Junior Young People or Senior Young People. Under the direction of a seasoned staff of youth ministry professionals, they’ll have the chance to explore their thoughts and beliefs, make friends from many states and dioceses and celebrate their faith in a welcoming, supportive Episcopal community. Groups of three or more can receive a Team Rebate if they use the form when registering and follow guidelines. Financial aid is an alternative, although it may not be combined with a Team Rebate. Applications for financial aid and the Team Rebate, online registration and more information are available at www.kanuga.org.
